197X Underwood 315 Serial # 9236044 197X Underwood 315 typewriter, Serial # 9236044 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 197X Underwood 315 typewriter. 2014-12-03 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 197X Underwood 315 Serial # 9236044 An interesting mix, this typewriter. I think it´s an Olivetti Dora rebranded as Underwood 315, and to make it even more confusing, it should be an Hispano because it was made in Barcelona. And last but not least, it has the keys of a Valentine.

I don´t have the slightest on why they decided to brand it Underwood, since the trend was to stamp an Olivetti tag everywhere (they scrapped the Hispano brand), and Olivetti are by far the most popular typewriters in Spain.

It came with its case, a quick reference guide, some correcting papers and a ribbon which by now is clinically dead. A really good value pack, since the machine is in perfect condition and it´s pretty rare around here. We are swarmed by Doras, but not by these 315´s

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
