197X Mitoral (Messa) 2000 S Serial # 6453497 197X Mitoral (Messa) 2000 S typewriter, Serial # 6453497 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 197X Mitoral (Messa) 2000 S typewriter. 2019-11-14 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 197X Mitoral (Messa) 2000 S Serial # 6453497 First of all, Mitoral is yet another Messa rebranding.

Mitoral typewriters are moderately easy to find in Spain, but this is not a case of a machine brought from our neighbouring country. This typewriter left the factory near Sintra (beautiful place if I may add, and the same place where Siemags were made, too) for Spanish customers with QWERTY layout and the Pts (pesetas, our former currency before the Euro) typeslug. In addition, this unit was sold in Catalonia, more precisely by Calculadores Pons, a dealer located in Manresa 60 km north of Barcelona. Next stop was Mollet del Valles (now closer to Barcelona), and finally westwards to my collection, some 700 km away.

Looks like a horrible typewriter, but it's not that bad. The ABC underwent different modifications by Jesus Filipe Genesio and the result is a bit like what happened in Spain with the many generations of the original Swiss Patria made in Eibar. Not as good as the original, but competent enough. Under the plastic there's a sturdy metal frame, the touch is not very crisp but the typing is quite comfortable. Like the Sedic Pulsatta Deluxe, this typewriter doesn't sound "Tac-tac-tac", but "Klok-klok-klok".

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Mitoral (Messa) 2000 S on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Mitoral (Messa) Serial Number page and the Mitoral (Messa) 2000 S By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
