Description:
Brother JP-10. Commentator vs Commentator I? It appears that the difference is the Commentator has replacable slugs. This one from 1977 has a black and red ribbon setting, but by 77, they are well into the correction feature.
This one had the motor bushing issue. They start to go or completely turn to dust and the motor falls over so the fan hits the segment spring. On this one, they were not too bad, so a rubber washer on each side of the bushing does the trick.
The plastic part of the card guide is gone. The metal brackets are there and required for the ribbon vibrator to pivot forward for cassette load. This one needs a little extra push for it to flip forward, so maybe the rod was tweaked when the card guide was snapped off?
These have two short and stout belts, so as long as someone didn’t go crazy with lube or solvent, they aren’t usually an issue.
A brand new sealed ribbon in the case. Unfortunately, it is a correction ribbon.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to any one area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Sears Commentator I on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Sears Serial Number page and the Sears Commentator I By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
