Description:
When you think every Brother has been discovered. Appears to be another version of the JP-8 4500/4512.
A promising start. The escape is no longer freewheeling. The belt is there and the motor is working. The motor bushings are shot, so the angle of the drive slipped the belt off.
Have a little faith brother. I remounted the motor with some grommet matching. The escape took some heavy cleaning. I shimmed up the return clutch engagement tab with heat shrink tubing. Yes, heat shrink. It works, but I can't speak to the long term durability. Back into the lower body with some more grommet improvising. Despite being externally dirty, it was pretty clean internally.
The Brother marathon is underway. How many Brother's will type out by midnight Sunday?
This is essentially an electrified JP-1. With an MSRP of $200, it wasn't cheap. With sophisticated JP-2s and JP-4s, what was the thinking to go back to this, somewhat crude, carriage shift electric? It makes sense if it were a budget machine. It was certainly the way things would go by the late 70s and early 80s, but not in 71.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to any one area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Brother Executron Mach II on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Brother Serial Number page and the Brother Executron Mach II By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
