1971 Remington Elitra Serial # TX 269354 1971 Remington Elitra typewriter, Serial # TX 269354 Hein Reinders's 1971 Remington Elitra typewriter. 2026-01-11 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Hein Reinders: 1971 Remington Elitra Serial # TX 269354 Remington Elitra, made in Holland
The Elitra is a beautifully designed machine, The mechanics are in a plastic egg, with a bottom and top shell. As a result, the mechanism has remained completely clean in the 30 years in my attic. And it was not used much before that time, the platen does not require maintenance. The lid says that it made in Germany and the machine in 'Holland'. Except for the eegshell, the mechanism is made of metal. Variants of this mechanism are used in several Remington models. The machine dates from 1970 or 1971. Typical of this mechanism is that the back key (backspace) is on the left, usually it is on the right. The machine does not handle two-color ribbon. The font is on the large side with 3 mm. There are 80 characters in 203 mm, so 10 characters in an inch. It is an elegantly designed portable machine, a showpiece on the desk or windowsill.

As a retired product development engineer, I am fascinated by the design of electro-mechanical products in which parts move, make noise and, preferably, radiate a little heat. Most preferred are products that are operated by keys, like typewriters, accordeons and pianos.
My genetics and statistics on lifetime expectancy suggest that it is time for me to let you know about the fantastic design, product engineering and manuacturing skills of the generation before mine. I salute mr. Munk for the opportunity that he has created for me to show it to the world. Okay, a bit bombastic.
