Description:
This is one with an odd serial number, but from what I've read, this serial number seems to indicate a 1968 or 1969 machine made in Barcelona. I bought this on Facebook Marketplace - this one was on my bucket list, based on the fact that I'd tried two fully serviced ones that both typed like a dream. This one had not been serviced or even used in quite a while- it had no ribbon and smelled musty. After cleaning, a few keys are still very sticky. So, it will need a little work. I put a green and red ribbon in since it was a Christmas gift. The cool thing is that it came with the original silver and black zipper case, manual, and plastic dust cover. There was also some 29-cent onion skin paper in the case.

I am a librarian, artist, writer, and co-author of the book Desegregation in Northern Virginia Libraries (The History Press, 2023). If I'm working on a book or article for publication, I'm on a computer. However, I use my typewriters to create poems, type-doodles, art, and to write snail mail letters. I find the tactile nature of typing on a manual machine soothing and joyful. Each vintage typewriter has a soul and a story. Currently my collection is centered around midcentury models.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olivetti Lettera 33 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olivetti Serial Number page and the Olivetti Lettera 33 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
