1969 Sears Electric Power 12 Serial # S6LC-110992 1969 Sears Electric Power 12 typewriter, Serial # S6LC-110992 Ted Munk's 1969 Sears Electric Power 12 typewriter. 2021-12-09 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Ted Munk: 1969 Sears Electric Power 12 Serial # S6LC-110992 This body style seems to have been offered by Sears in the "Medalist" line from 1966 to 1968, according to Sears Christmas Wishbook catalogs. This example I've dated to 68 just because it most closely resembled the 1968 Medalist pictured in the wishbooks, plus the funky 70's style lettering used for the "Power Return" logo. "Power Return" seems to have been introduced in 1968, as the Wishbook claims the feature is "All New", and the 1966 Medalist version retains the manual carriage return.

That's one of the really nice things about the Sears and other chain-store branded machines. The surviving catalogs are a rich resource for very exactly dating the machines, even where serial numbers fail us. It should be noted that insight can be gained into the swath of missing serial number data for SCM by putting dates on Sears serial numbers and comparing close SCM numbers.

In any position, even fully open, the carriage never runs into the ribbon cover. Handy that there isn't a carriage return arm, because that Power Return would rip the ribbon cover right off. :D

I am a scoundrel without a cause, and my swank outshines the sun.

I am a casual Typewriter Hunter residing in the sweltering deserts of Arizona with a wife, three cats and about 50 typewriters. My main hunting ground is thrift stores, and I rarely pay more than $10 for a machine. My collection consists mainly of portables with cases, and they stay in the cases unless I am actively using it (usually more than one at a time). I do, however keep a handful of interesting Selectrics, including a Composer and a couple of large Nakajima Electronics to use as daisywheel printers for my vintage laptop collection.
