Description:
Introduced in 1965 and a mainstay for Remington for over a decade. With a big ad push, they sold a lot of them. Internally, it is the same as a late Monarch. The early Monarchs were different and more robust, sort of. All these budget Holland machines have a weak return/line advance. Unfortunately, small differences between models make parts swaps to fix things difficult.
Early models have an articulating cover. This is a pop off version.
This one was hit in the back, and the rear panel needed some forming. You wouldn't think it was hard enough to make the carriage bearing/track a bit wobbly, but it is. Right on cue, the line advance will over swing by half a space if you hit it with any sort of authority. I made a little spacer to stop the line advance rod. Fixed?
I am using late Underwood spools from the electric machines I have accumulated. They are the Remington system.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to any one area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington Ten Forty on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington Ten Forty By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
