Description:
This one has a different cover than the 77 and it is definitely setup for a clam shell cover. Whereas my initial assement was off on the 77. There is no way a shell would attach and not pull the ribbon cover off. This cover has a proper latch at the back and the holders for a clam cover are there (images). Anyway, this one came with a soft case with the literature for the machine in the case, so I'd say that's how this one left the dealer.
$28 would buy you one. No wonder S-C was squealing.
Another easy service and detail. Brother marathon continues! I have one in the sun and if it turns out, that's eight so far.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to any one area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Brother Echelon 55 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Brother Serial Number page and the Brother Echelon 55 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
