1966 Brother Activator 800T Serial # 64867040 1966 Brother Activator 800T typewriter, Serial # 64867040 Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters's 1966 Brother Activator 800T typewriter. 2019-03-20 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters: 1966 Brother Activator 800T Serial # 64867040 The Brother Activator 800T is more of a cheaper option in the line-up of JP-1 Brother typewriters that were available at this time of manufacture. The shell is made extensively of plastic, and even though mechanically it is not much different from an alternative convention Brother typewriter, you do have that sense of lacking quality that, regardless of the cheapness that Brother usually expresses, is frequently found in other Brother portable typewriters. Brother portables of this era are usually criticized for their tawdry build-quality. I personally do enjoy these machines very much as they are reliable and indestructible. These Japanese typewriters are very much like the country's quality of cars. Simple, dull and cheap but build like a tank and good luck finding one that doesn't work. This particular JP-1 was missing a key, which I found a replacement for in my selection of keys that I took off of a 1969 Olivetti Linea 88 typewriter that I used for parts many years ago. Aside from that this typewriter turned out to be surprisingly capable of high speed. Please click the link that is with this gallery to see the typewriter in action prior to any servicing. I was genuinely impressed.
