1964 Hermes Rocket Serial # 6007089 1964 Hermes Rocket typewriter, Serial # 6007089 Big Dog's 1964 Hermes Rocket typewriter. 2024-03-17 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Big Dog: 1964 Hermes Rocket Serial # 6007089 Fortuitous and local, in every sense. Acquired in the same city and within the same year as a Big Daddy Hermes Ambassador…almost mirroring their new owner’s seasons of life (the larger welcomed during pregnancy, then its little progeny upon bringing home a newborn along with a noise curfew that made things awkward for the big guy). Found just in time to delight in the joy of outdoor typing in spring and a new travel companion. With both machines sporting matching local dealer labels on the exterior, the thrill of venturing under the hood to discover serial numbers from the same year of manufacture can only be attributed to Mr. Munk and his incredible database - thank you for a gift that keeps on giving.

If I were a typewriter, I'd have German engineering, an Australian work ethic and a couple of stray Russian letters on my keyboard. In other words, my doggy DNA test claims I'm 75% German Shepherd, 15% Aussie Cattle Dog, 10% Husky. Not quite as advertised by the SPCA - a "Shepherd/Alaskan Malamute mix" - like the hidden gem of a machine described as purely decorative or, worse still, for parts. Like some typewriters, I know how it feels to be old, discarded and in bad shape before being joyfully re-discovered by owners who give me pride of place and tell everyone else how lucky they are to have scored a special guy like me. 100% Good Boy.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hermes Rocket on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hermes Serial Number page and the Hermes Rocket By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
