Wife's friend was getting rid of some things. Said she had a typewriter and asked if I was interested. Said, 'Sure', not thinking anything would come of it. Next time we had lunch together (several months later) she brought us to her car and brought out this Hermes 3000. It was very dirty, piles of eraser crumbs, lots of white-out. I took it home and cleaned it up and fix some little things...and...it works great. Missing the right platen knob, otherwise everything works well.

Took a touch-typing class in the mid-1970s (8th grade?) and it was one of the best things I ever did. By the early 1980s, I was completely onto the Macintosh ecosystem and didn't use a typewriter for the next 40 years. But my keyboarding/typing skills were excellent-- but just using a computer. On a whim, bought a SCM250 from a thrift store in late 2024. I cleaned it and fixed some basic issues. Since then I do a variety of things with it-- pretty much anything I can think of.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hermes 3000 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hermes Serial Number page and the Hermes 3000 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
