Battelle Memorial Institute is one of the world's largest applied research institutions, with a historic postwar headquarters in Frankfurt. It has been involved in industrial and technological research, and—during certain periods of the Cold War—even in intelligence and security projects, working under contract for both private industry and governments.
The typewriter was used in Romania by a Securitate colonel. The capacitor is dead, a key is missing, the keyboard has been modified to use the Romanian alphabet and the model plate is missing, but these are all issues that can be fixed. I am working on the evolution of the Triumph Adler electric typewriter since the introduction of the Matura Electric and the Adler Electric L, and this was one of the missing pieces. Any information is welcome!
This typewriter should have been produced in 1961 shortly after the revision of the numbering, and soon replaced with the 31/51 models in 1962. The Matura Electric was still available until 1964.
