Description:
It is barely better than a toy. Sears was carrying the full SC lineup in 60, including the Chieftan for the ultra offering. I wonder why they dropped that for 61 and opted for this instead. Sears ran products through quality control. Rest assured, the service and return costs are the reason this was a one hit wonder.
How cheap was it? Here is a clue. If you use one set screw for a platen knob, you typically have to center drill the platen rod. Otherwise, you use two screws with a flat landing for one. Nope. So one knob was missing and the other was about to come off. The heart of the machine, the escapement, is just a pile of junk.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to anyone area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Tower Capri on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Tower Serial Number page and the Tower Capri By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
