Description:
I love the 5TE models and this one in particular. The gentleman had used this machine during his college days in the 70’s and had held onto it all these years. Deciding to clear the unneeded clutter from his life. He advertised it for $5!!! The carriage slid back and forth aimlessly, so he thought it was useless. I gave it a quick evaluation. I saw the draw-band was broken and assured him it was an “easy fix”. Reaching for the $5 bill in my pocket and he told me that he had decided to give me this typewriter. Though this sentiment was not spoken, if I was in his shoes I would have felt that this guy loves these machines and will care for it and keep it working for years to come, as it was intended to do. This filled me with a feeling of duty to serve as guardian of his old friend and companion.

A lifelong tinker. Tearing up toys since the 70’s to see how they work!
A not so talented two finger typer, suddenly thrown into the world of touch typing and typewriter repair by my 1954 Smith-Corona Silent-Super affectionately called Cricket.
