If your machine is making a racket when pushing the carriage to the right, your silencer may be broken. This part must be correctly fitted and not broken, even if the larger supplementary spring is there otherwise you'll get a nasty rasping noise as the dog hits the escapement. Replacing is a challenging and fiddly job, but I did it, I may post a blog at some point
