1960 Aztec (Groma) 800 Serial # 1026353 1960 Aztec (Groma) 800 typewriter, Serial # 1026353 Greg Mattesen's 1960 Aztec (Groma) 800 typewriter. 2026-08-28 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Greg Mattesen: 1960 Aztec (Groma) 800 Serial # 1026353 Groma-based Aztec 800. I'm guessing on the year of manufacture of 1960. This machine is basically a Groma Combina (I owned another example once and really liked it). It has a quality look to it, and it types well. Rubber is in great shape for its age, and I like the way the carriage is designed to be easily removed: flip two levers and lift it off.

I "accidentally" started collecting typwriters in the fall of 2020. After my daughter got one cheap at a junk shop, and hearing that she intended to use it to write some old fashioned snail-mail letters to friends, I decided to get "a" typewriter myself to do the same. The first one was a real lucky break: a pristine 1950 Smith-Corona Sterling in perfect condition. From there I got interested in other brands and into refurbishing dirty and forgotten machines. I've had 80+ typewriters at this point, passing many along to excited new owners to keep my collection hovering around 20 machines.
