1959 Remington Travel-Riter Serial # 704059D 1959 Remington Travel-Riter typewriter, Serial # 704059D Mos 6502's 1959 Remington Travel-Riter typewriter. 2026-09-30 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Mos 6502: 1959 Remington Travel-Riter Serial # 704059D This is a rather neat looking machine from Remington. Technically Sperry Rand at this point in history, but still branded Remington. This particular machine is very different from the near identical looking Made in Holland Travel-Riter in my collection. The frame of the machine is made of castings, rather than stampings, the serial number is on the bottom of the machine, rather than next to the ribbon spool, and there is no country of origin printed or stamped anywhere on the machine. The serial number does not align with the portables on the Remington serial number list on this site, but going from details visible in ads, I believe this typewriter was likely made in 1959 or 1960. The joints around the front of the machine disappear in later production, but are visible in the early 59/60 ads.

This is a rather neat looking machine from Remington. Technically Sperry Rand at this point in history, but still branded Remington. This particular machine is very different from the near identical looking Made in Holland Travel-Riter in my collection. It would appear only early examples of this iteration of the Travel-Riter have these joints around the front, on later machines this is all cast as one piece.

I'm genuinely impressed with the engineering of this machine, but that cast frame must've cost a fortune to tool up for.
