Description:
Nickname "Óscar" or "Oskar"
Óscar/Oskar has two names to reflect its Spanish keyboard and German manufacture. It is the result of my search for a good typewriter with a Spanish keyboard. I found a Hermes Baby ultraportable earlier (Ares) but did not care for the flimsy typing action. Oskar has excellent typing action, its weakness being the loud pinging sound that I find common in Olympias with hard platens. I will likely have Óscar's platen and feed rollers recovered by JJ Short as I have every intention of holding on to this machine long term. The dead key for the grave accent and diaeresis works perfectly and a feature that I appreciate as it is not present on English keyboards. The chrome metal levers and tabs on this typewriter are absolutely stunning. Even the carriage end caps are chromed metal rather than painted. Future typewriters from all manufacturers would replace this type of brightwork with plastic or painted details. Sage green crinkle paint and black keys, 10 CPI Pica typeface.

Metastatic cancer fighter and sudden cardiac arrest survivor who has gotten into vintage typewriter collecting after realizing that life is short and typewriters are fascinating. My machines range from 1947 to 1973 and I type on all of them and have given each of them a name. Have I mentioned that life is short? I am having great fun with this obsessi- I mean hobby. I live in San Diego, California.
