1958 Woodwards Good Companion 5 Serial # 5K 003 1958 Woodwards Good Companion 5 typewriter, Serial # 5K 003 Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters's 1958 Woodwards Good Companion 5 typewriter. 2019-08-17 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters: 1958 Woodwards Good Companion 5 Serial # 5K 003 Imperial Good Companions were sold for multiple generations by Woodward's in Canada, and were brand-marked as such for their duration on the Canadian market. This is such an example. According to Australian collector Robert Messenger, as few as 37.000 were manufactured during it's run from 1957 to 1961, making it a rare bird in anyone's book 60 years on. However, having gone through my specimen, I must say that I was rather despondent with the quality of it's mechanism, as it did not represent the British integrity I have come to expect with Imperial products, in light of it's rather mediocre unibody and economically focused contrivance, although the metallic teal finish is that of a high standard. By personal opinion, I prefer the darker style keys of it's predecessor, but do enjoy the trim look that this Good Companion expels!
