1958 Smith Corona Clipper Serial # 5C 409857 1958 Smith Corona Clipper typewriter, Serial # 5C 409857 Fumitaka Hayashi's 1958 Smith Corona Clipper typewriter. 2026-05-26 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Fumitaka Hayashi: 1958 Smith Corona Clipper Serial # 5C 409857 A pretty clean example of a Smith Corona Clipper, from 1958. It comes in a metal case. On one hand, it seems sturdier and lighter than the usual wooden case. However, the lid was dented inwards. I was able to pop it back out, but it looks like it could use a go over by a paintless car dent repair person.

The far right typebar had become disconnected from the linkage. I was able to reattach it, and otherwise there seems to be nothing wrong with this example.

Another Goodwill auction acquisition, this time shipped in from Columbia Willamette, which is located in the town of Milwaukie - where the spelling is correct because it's the town in Oregon...

A rather complicated contraption mounts the typewriter to the case bottom. When locked in, it's held under tension, so when you hit the release lever, it almost pops out of the frame.

Relatively new to collecting. Would like to document my collection.

Planning on sticking to full-sized American machines so I don't spend too much on fancy European portables.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Clipper on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Clipper By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
