The carriage was grinding against the shell and I saw telltale scrape marks on the shell. I replaced the melted washers and all was well.

Description:

I fixed this typewriter for a friend, replacing the the draw string which had gotten tangled in the mainspring. The carriage was grinding against the shell and I saw telltale scrape marks on the shell. I replaced the melted washers and all was well.
