Description:
Machine sold on the US market with a QWERTY keyboard.
I purchased this broken machine from a collector in Colorado which had received it damaged due to poor packing.
I don't think the shell can be repaired, therefore I am using the mechanism to replace the one from my other Kolibri #689079 and using three of its typebars and key tops to convert it into a French Canadian keyboard layout.
Surprisingly, this one has a type pitch of 2.25 mm per caracter while #689079 is a 2.6 mm pitch yet, the types and slugs are identical in size and are interchangeable.

Bonjour! I am from the region of Montreal, Quebec and moved to Ottawa, Ontario in 1992.
Amateur watchmaker and machinist, I love anything mechanical, hydraulic or electric. I have restored American and Canadian clocks and small lathes, milling machines and a jig bore.
Most of my typewriters have French Canadian QWERTY keyboards, with some exception for rare finds.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Groma Kolibri on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Groma Serial Number page and the Groma Kolibri By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
