Description:
I love cover Queens. This one is so nice. The margin set on the right side was missing the screw, collar and nut. Maybe this is why the right side took a hit? There is some paint gone on the tabulator cover and a bit of a wobble in the rod/knob.
The tab brake is different. There are no dual lock nuts to adjust the spring tension on the main spring. The late ones have a ramp for the spring to move up onto for more tab brake. This one has a screw that's been buggered up on the gear, but I don't see what it does adjustment wise. See pic.
What's the "S" in the SN mean?
Wilbur E. Walker was a huge typewriter dealer. He started selling Smith Corona in the 30s.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to anyone area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona "Eighty-Eight" Secretarial on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona "Eighty-Eight" Secretarial By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
