1956 Royal Quiet De Luxe Serial # T3305180 1956 Royal Quiet De Luxe typewriter, Serial # T3305180 Mighty Jabba's 1956 Royal Quiet De Luxe typewriter. 2023-05-11 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Mighty Jabba: 1956 Royal Quiet De Luxe Serial # T3305180 I have kind of mixed feelings about this machine. I got a pretty decent but not amazing deal on it on eBay thanks to a "Best Offer," but despite my specifically asking them to pack it well and telling them that it was important to put packing material inside the case just in case it became dislodged, they didn't do that and only put the case in a box with a piece of crumpled paper on top. So naturally it came loose inside the case and several levers got bent. There was probably also some damage to the paint, but it's difficult to know because the auction photo was so bad (yes, just the one). When I tried re-bending the lever that releases the pressure on the platen, the top with the white plastic nubbin broke off (by which I mean the metal actually broke, so repairing it was a little tricky). Luckily, it doesn't require a lot of force to use that lever, and you can even use it without the nubbin. Still, I epoxied it back on and it has been holding.

I also found that I really dislike the typeface on these particular machines. Not sure what it is about it, but it just looks off to me somehow. On the bright side, after a thorough cleaning and degreasing, it is very usable. And it still looks great on display. Love this teal color. Not sure what Royal was thinking by only having these shiny colorful machines for a short time. (As a side note, I had to color correct my photos to get the paint to actually appear the correct teal color. Straight out of the camera, it was basically just a light blue.)

I have a combination blue and green ribbon in this machine, which is fun.
