The paper bail scale goes up to 70 on a Halda equipped with pica, but there are more notches beyond that, so about 80 total.

Slide the carriage to the far left to reveal the serial number in the top right corner of the Halda.

The carriage return lever rides quite close to the cover, but never touches it.

Includes a retractable paper holder.

The carriage lock is located right underneath the right platen knob. Forward locks it. Backward unlocks it.

Seventy years old and the cover is in nearly perfect condition.

Underneath: a single large, wraparound rubber foot. The pegboard looks like it came out of a garden shed, but it's standard issue.

Complete with a handsome carrying case.

An early version of the Halda Portable manual (the more common manual is included in the links above). It is designed to look like a carrying case.

The manual is a little worse for wear, but it's nice to have a copy of this early version.

All of the typewriter's features are pointed out using detailed pop-up illustrations.

That's right, it's a pop-up manual! The hood lifts up to reveal the spools and segment, just like on the real typewriter!

Born in the Midwest, but I grew up in Europe and Australia. I hold a BA in English from the University of Iowa and love to read and write. I'm drawn to Russian literature in particular, especially Chekhov and Tolstoy, but I also read widely. My personal library contains somewhere between two and three thousand books. I've been collecting typewriters since the fall of 2016 and enjoy writing with, cleaning, and repairing them. Imho, the typewriter is one of the great inventions of humankind, but I suspect you knew that already.
