Description:
Another Underwood 4-bank portable, the Leader.
Despite the name, this 'trim level' is the one with no tab, no ribbon color selector, and a right margin that is just the bell - it doesn't actually stop you from typing until the end of the carriage travel.
Cosmetically, this one is in rough shape, and is missing the case. The sound deadening glued to the ribbon cover had caused a lot of rust on the underside. However, the mechanism is functioning well, and weirdly, the rubber feet are intact.
Has the hatted 8 that I kind of like.
This one has a serial number later than my other 1953 Leader(H2303560), and is closer to my 1953 Correspondent (M2324751).
Another Goodwill auction acquisition. This one was sent in from Minnesota.

Relatively new to collecting. Would like to document my collection.
Planning on sticking to full-sized American machines so I don't spend too much on fancy European portables.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood Leader on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood Leader By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
