1952 Underwood Correspondent Serial # M2306296 1952 Underwood Correspondent typewriter, Serial # M2306296 Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters's 1952 Underwood Correspondent typewriter. 2020-01-23 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters: 1952 Underwood Correspondent Serial # M2306296 The Underwood Correspondent is a rare equivalent to the well-known Leader model that Underwood manufactured during it's 4-bank model production run. The Correspondent was mainly offered during the transitional period from the classic portables who's production was halted during World War II, to the "Finger-Flite" models that came to be in the early 1950's. Even though the Leader is commonly associated with a more utilitarian build-quality, the Correspondent ads a little dash of quality to the mix, with a more advanced trim-level and a flavour-full set of decals that attractively decorated an otherwise rather economical portable. It's financially provident factors are reflected in the lack of a touch-control, colour-selector and typebar resisting right margin, amongst other options. However, even though these typewriters were considered to rank relatively low on the food-pile, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the build-quality in the productivity it did offer. Well done, Underwood. This typewriter was gifted to the father of a very good friend of mine.
