Description:
Another Underwood Leader, this one from 1951.
The case is the green textured type. These cases seem to come in either green or black.
And like all my Underwood 4-bank portables, it comes with the Union UT12 Underwood Distinctive Pica. The slugs are marked with a "DP". The "8" has a little hat.
The underside of the ribbon cover/body cover has rust where the sound-deadening felt was glued. This seems like a common problem in these typewriters.
The fact that these have no ribbon color selector or touch adjustment or tab system makes these kind of easy to get working, as theres a lot less to go wrong in these.
Another Goodwill auction purchase. This was sent out from Washington, D.C.

Relatively new to collecting. Would like to document my collection.
Planning on sticking to full-sized American machines so I don't spend too much on fancy European portables.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood Leader on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood Leader By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
