1950 Underwood Finger-Flite Champion Serial # J2017856 1950 Underwood Finger-Flite Champion typewriter, Serial # J2017856 Jer Wal's 1950 Underwood Finger-Flite Champion typewriter. 2015-06-02 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Jer Wal: 1950 Underwood Finger-Flite Champion Serial # J2017856 I bought this for $12 at the local Re-Store. I intended to use it for parts only; and I scavenged the space bar for use on an Underwood desk machine. But then I oiled it up and found that I fell in love with the "touch" of it. So I made a new spacebar out of wood and I'm actually putting a few miles on the ribbon!
Note that this Champion was built right at the transition to the "Finger Flite" models and shares that later body style. In fact, the only thing I can see it's missing is a "Finger Flite" decal on the paper tray to make it exactly the same.
After looking closely at the serial number data base I'm changing the mfg date on this one to 1950, so the type sample is now incorrect. And I decided to move it to the "Finger-Flite" group of Champions if I can do that.
It still types great. I have others that print better but I think I like the feel of this little portable the best.

The pounding typebar, having writ, moves on... unless there's a ding.
