194X Hispano-Olivetti Studio 46 Serial # 172812 194X Hispano-Olivetti Studio 46 typewriter, Serial # 172812 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 194X Hispano-Olivetti Studio 46 typewriter. 2022-08-30 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 194X Hispano-Olivetti Studio 46 Serial # 172812 The Hispano - Olivetti Studio 46 is the Spanish version of the Olivetti Studio 42. What were they thinking when they decided to change the model's name? For sure they weren't expecting another Studio 46 coming from Italy anytime soon, but exactly that did happen. For the time the Hispano Olivetti brand was active they changed the name of 3 models: the Studio 42 became Studio 46, the Lexikon 80 became the Lexicon 80 and the Lettera 22 became the Pluma 22. With the Lettera 32 the Hispano brand was dropped, but the name Hispano Olivetti is still quite remembered. Many people (including former workers) still refer to the factory at Barcelona as "La Hispano Olivetti".

This unit comes in a nice mustard yellow livery, and works fine. The Studio 46 is a reliable machine and can bounce back from decades of neglection with relative ease, but this one didn't need to go through that. Everything was alright except for the case. Judging from the bottom half, the top must have been quite destroyed so someone decided to "restore" it with a piece of red felt.

This red felt may be ugly, but at least someone tried to keep the typewriter warm and cozy.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
