1947 Remington Deluxe Model 5 Serial # B1501910 1947 Remington Deluxe Model 5 typewriter, Serial # B1501910 Fumitaka Hayashi's 1947 Remington Deluxe Model 5 typewriter. 2026-05-15 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Fumitaka Hayashi: 1947 Remington Deluxe Model 5 Serial # B1501910 My 5th typewriter is somewhat appropriately a Remington De Luxe Model 5. This was in certain ways very good (overall paint, non-sticky mechanism, intact rubber feet) but rough in other ways (key caps horribly scarred by fingernails, required fixes to carriage spring and a loose screw for one of the case mounts). It's in Pica unlike my two desk Remingtons that are both Elite.

The little bit of red on the bottoms of the letters seem to improve once I fixed the ribbon path. I have since replaced the keycaps -purchased from TBWritersPlus.com, taken from a donor machine.

The typing feel is pretty nice. It is currently my favorite machine to type on, despite it being an older machine with limited functionality.

--
Now that I've seen other examples, I've noticed that this example is missing a detent in the chassis rail that engages the carriage lock. The lock mechanism is present on the carriage, but the part that it's supposed to catch on the lower rail is gone.

Case is in fairly good shape.

Acquired from Goodwill auction, sold from Central North Carolina.

Relatively new to collecting. Would like to document my collection.

Planning on sticking to full-sized American machines so I don't spend too much on fancy European portables.
