Description:
Jack (Black). Goodwill Statesville, NC. Several keys do not strike...needs some work. #Smith-Corona #black #usa #Silent #1940s November 2025, started taking this apart at a Typewriter Repair-In - received some guidance from a fellow collector....but it's stalled as I don't have the right tool/technique/touch to get the segments linked back together with the typebars (who knows if I'm using the right words here) - I did buy the Repair Bible for floating shift machines so hopefully that will help me get this fella working again. 2.28.26 We hosted another mini repair-in and our resident expert, Mary, took Jack into her custody. Two days later, the machine is in perfect working order - see the link to her blog article detailing the repair process. #xyz-4s

Started collecting in March 2021 when an Olympia SM3 caught my eye at a thrift store. By May 2021, I was up to nine. By September 2021, my husband jumped in to the pool with both feet and our collection grew to 37. Phew. By October 2022 we had 64. In 2023 we began attending and hosting events where we can share our collection with the community and other collectors. We've sold or given away over 40. Good times.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Silent on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Silent By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
