1943 Royal KMM Serial # KMM14-3020191 1943 Royal KMM typewriter, Serial # KMM14-3020191 Mark Schrad's 1943 Royal KMM typewriter. 2026-06-30 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Mark Schrad: 1943 Royal KMM Serial # KMM14-3020191 This typewriter is difficult to pin down. This is a gray Royal KMM (note: not KMG even though the G stands for gray). It has a newer (and surprisingly good) 14” platen and green keys, which suggests that it was professionally refurbished, either at a shop or the factory, some time in the 1950s through ‘70s.

Even more curious is that the serial number dates this unusual machine to 1943–wartime production for WWII, and one of the last machines to roll off the Royal assembly line before it was converted to make guns, ammunition and airplane parts for the war effort.

So a lot of unusual history with this one. And it looks like it has been put through its paces, since it has some definite wear and tear, cosmetically. But mechanically, this is still a superb typewriter. Following a thorough cleaning and servicing, including new old-stock ribbon and spools, it types clearly, crisply and smoothly as it should!

Purchased from a clean-out of Grace Ukrainian Church in Warminster, PA in June of 2026.
