1942 Remington Envoy Serial # S1210852 1942 Remington Envoy typewriter, Serial # S1210852 John Abbott's 1942 Remington Envoy typewriter. 2020-03-28 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of John Abbott: 1942 Remington Envoy Serial # S1210852 #1125. I picked this up a Goodwill very recently. I love these prewar portables. Except, this one isn't prewar, it is during the war. Based on the serial number, it was built between March 1. 1942 and December 15, 1942. Based on the difference in the serial number, I extrapolated that it was probably built in August 1942. The last serial number produced was S1224731. In August Remington switched all portables to use the same pool of serial numbers and changed the prefix from "SD" to "S". Mine is an "S", so after this cutover. One of the last 14,000 made.

Unfortunately this one has taken some damage to the plastic coating, leaving some nasty wounds in the covering of this. Makes it worse that they are on the front of it.

I started my collection back in 2017 when I found a 1993 Brother WP-1250, which was very close to the typewriter I owned and used to write letters home while I was stationed in Korea serving in the US Air Force (I later discovered it was most likely the Brother WP-1150, so I picked that up). In 2018, my wife took me to one of the local antique store and I saw an old typewriter that caught my eye. My wife purchased it for me for Christmas (a 1932 Royal 10). My wife and I decided to limit my collection to 5 typewriters, so I need to sell off my surplus.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington Envoy on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington Envoy By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
