Description:
A Remington Model 17 - this was the second of the two I received along with a box of parts.
This is probably a bit of a franken-typewriter made up of multiple original typewriters. It is still missing some parts, such as the margin scale screw on the left - I've had to cobble something together with a bolt and nut. It is also missing the paper table, and some other parts I'm sure.
I had to mount the carriage, and reattach the card guide and the mechanism that rings the bell at the right margin.
The right margin adjuster is shaped so that it will ring the bell, but won't actually stop the carriage from going past the setting.
It is missing the carriage strap, which I'll probably replace with fishing line.
I was able to get a typing sample by manually providing traction to the carriage, and manually advancing the ribbon...
This is my 4th Remington 17, but the first with normal pica typeface.
This was acquired from Tony Casillo, along with the double gothic one and a box of parts.

Relatively new to collecting. Would like to document my collection.
Planning on sticking to full-sized American machines so I don't spend too much on fancy European portables.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington 17 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington 17 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
