1940 Invicta Portable Serial # IN23215 1940 Invicta Portable typewriter, Serial # IN23215 fausto tomesani's 1940 Invicta Portable typewriter. 2025-07-15 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of fausto tomesani: 1940 Invicta Portable Serial # IN23215 This is an Invicta typewriter. In Latin it means invincible.
It’s still with his original case. Let’s open it.
It’s from 40’s years.
There is the name of the producer, Invicta, Turin, but there isn’t any model name. So this typewriter was known as Invicta portable.
Invicta was founded by the Italian Giuseppe Giachero, who gained experience in USA about construction of typewriters. With this experience he started to build his typewriters, in Turin, Italy, around 1920.
So Invicta produced typewriters between the 20’s and 30’s years of the last century, and had some success thanks to the cheaper price they had.
Then in 1938, Olivetti acquired the Invicta, and till late 40’s they produced this portable machine. The mechanic of this Invicta typewriter actually is the same of Olivetti MP1.
In 1950 Invicta is absorbed into Olivetti, and so Invicta stopped all the productions.
The design of the case is rounded, the paint is shining. Also on the ribbon there are two covers of the same colour and style of the case.
The typewriter came with his basis, you cannot remove it, but you can raise it for cleaning.
Here there is the serial number, and you can see all the mechanisms.
There is the Italian Keyboard, with the accented letters for the Italian language. All the buttons are protected by a little glass cover. This lever is the colour selector for the ribbon.

I inherited a collection of around 400 old typewriters and calculators from my father, who collected them for 50 years.
I also have a YouTube channel featuring these typewriters.
The pictures are made by my wife who is a photographer. Her name is Milena.
This gallery is managed by her,
So if you like the pictures don't thank me but her.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Invicta Portable on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Invicta Serial Number page and the Invicta Portable By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
