1939 Monarch (Remington) Deluxe Noiseless Serial # ND179115 1939 Monarch (Remington) Deluxe Noiseless typewriter, Serial # ND179115 Charlie Buchanan's 1939 Monarch (Remington) Deluxe Noiseless typewriter. 2022-11-23 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Charlie Buchanan: 1939 Monarch (Remington) Deluxe Noiseless Serial # ND179115 Found in High Point, NC. Cleaned and replaced feet, recovered platen and feed rollers. Installed a cotton bicolor ribbon. Bicolor control linkage still needs adjustment. Otherwise types well.
This machine had been in one family since before WWII. The seller was clearing his parents house and wanted to pass it along. He remembered using it in high school and it had been stored in the case for quite awhile. Aside from some dust and eraser crumbs it was very clean and flushing the multiple pivots freed up all the keys. Very different typing experience from the gear driven Remingtons of that era. It seems to thrive with a cotton ribbon.

I am a retired photojournalist who started in newspapering in the era of Underwoods and Royals, survived through Selectrics and Atex dumb terminals to finish in Macs and PC's.
I've always enjoyed the mechanical side of the business and became interested in typewriters after retirement. I have a small collection of machines and my focus is figuring them out and getting them in working order. I have learned a lot from the Typewriter Database and hope to contribute to the project.
