A basic version of the Portable, and proudly built by British Labour in their London factory. Actually works pretty well. I bet this typewriter saw some of World War II. I suspect it came to the USA with a soldier (either during WW2, immediately after, or perhaps the soldier was a collector and got it sometime during the Cold War). Or maybe it belonged to a war bride. Who knows!

This one's a ShopGoodwill acquisition. A basic version of the Portable, and proudly built by British Labour in their London factory. Actually works pretty well. I bet this typewriter saw some of World War II. There's only one platen knob, on the right. With the knob pushed in, the return lever is disabled, and you have to advance line to line manually. Pulled out, you can you the return lever to advance single or double spaced.
