1935 Olympia Filia Serial # 40055 1935 Olympia Filia typewriter, Serial # 40055 Paolo Dal Chiele's 1935 Olympia Filia typewriter. 2020-10-16 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Paolo Dal Chiele: 1935 Olympia Filia Serial # 40055 Early Filia A (first year of production).
Unusual features include the glass keys and the non standard keyboard layout. Particularly strange is the absence of the apostrophe and the presence of the acute accent on active typebar (when you type, the carriage move one space, so you have to bring the carriage back to type the letter under the accent, which in absence of backsapace is a little tricky). Detailes on unusual keyboard layout at the end of the gallery in comparison with a late Filia B keybord and also showing the different configuration of the 40 keys.
The main problem with this typewriter were the keylevers stuck to the keylevers drive plate because of the deteriored rubber gasket.
Main difference of Filia Modell A compared with Filia Modell B: carriage sliding mechanism, carriage width 22 cm instead of 24 cm, lack of right shift key, second keys row with 10 keys instead of 11, typewritter fixed to the case bottom. The Filia Modell A was 10 RM cheaper (109,5 RM vs. 119,5 RM of the Modell B, case excluded).
As for other Volksprodukt, the Filia flyer included a postcard to be returned to Olympia with the following message: I am interested in OLYMPIA FILIA and the Olympia partial payment system. I would like more non-binding information, I could pay approximately ….. monthly. Let me know without obligation your nearest representative so that I can see the OLYMPIA FlLIA typewriter.
