Description:
2026-JUN-21, Original Gallery Creation. About a month ago, on 5/23/26, I did an eBay search on "Royal 10 typewriter". The results of my search are discussed in the gallery for my 1916 Royal with the 14-inch carriage, #X14244372 (no dash); see link. Today, I did the same search, and many of the same machines were still listed, but there were eight new ones. No "Q" models were present, but I thought this 12-inch Keyset Segment shift model (KS12-1629229) was interesting enough, with good enough eBay listing images, to get a gallery.
Per the TWDB serial number listing for Royal, the H/KH models started at #1664000 in 1934, so this Royal 10 is within 35k units of the end of the run. It has a decimal tabulator, and Elite typeface. Below are the new listings for a Royal 10 with serial number provided since my 5/23 search.
1. X-1373977 (1930), $175 OBO, seller denamwk, located in Northfield, OH.
2. KS12-1629229 (1934), this gallery:: asking a gob of dough: $900 "Buy It Now", seller huskernkansas, located in Clay City, KS.
3. X-866699 (1925), $39.95 (auction starting bid), zalapa_collectibles, Colorado Springs, CO.
4. X698106 (1923), $179.99 OBO, rons_online_treasure, Harrisburg, PA.
5. X-987924 (1926), $195 BIN, Raisins_Randsoms, Denver, CO.
6. X541602 (no dash) (1920), $275 OBO, bhfpp3, Scranton, PA. This machine has the dates "6/18/24" and "12/4/27" scratched on the back of the paper table; presumably these are referring to service dates in 1924 and 1927, respectively.
7. S/-1490633 (1931), $225 OBO, JVCache, Fort Mohave, AZ. This serial number does, indeed, to have an S-slash ("S/") preceding a dash, followed by a 7-digit serial number.
8. S-1630651 (1934), $90 OBO, The Omnium Gatherum Store, Homeworth OH. Only 1,425 units away from the subject machine of this gallery.
I have updated the gallery for #X14244372 with more info about the listings from my 5/23/26 search that I saw again today on eBay.

My interest in typewriters started in 1997, when I was in graduate school at the University of Georgia. I purchased and read Darryl Rehr's book, joined ETC, and started reaching out to known collectors. I had several email interchanges with Richard Polt dating from that period. I also bought some of my first machines from Bob Aubert, and visited him at his home twice. After marriage and relocation to New England, I continued visiting antique shops and eBay, until other priorities put my typewriter hobby on hiatus around 2008.
In late 2024, I started up again, working on my machines and having some of them serviced professionally by New England Typewriter (NET) LLC (Merrimack, NH), until they closed their doors in December of 2025. Since mid-2025, I have been adding to my collection again, first with a Hermes 3000 purchase from NET, then with various auctions and purchases on eBay, when I find something that catches my eye.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal 10 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal 10 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
