I use, collect, and repair typewriters. I am particularly drawn to American typewriters from the 1920s to the 1930s, but I have machines from the 1880s onward as well. Designers really got some things right during that time. There is an honesty to the typewriters’ designs. I particularly love the early Royal Ps. I am also part of Austin Typewriter, Ink., and the Austin Typewriter Ink. podcast, where we interview people who are interested in typewriters.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood Portable 3 Bank on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood Portable 3 Bank By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
