Description:
Call me Mr. Tabulator. This machine had a lot of paper run through it by the wear on the table and the spacebar. It had received a few rounds of touch-up here and there. Despite this, the only thing preventing it from typing was a tab brake that was hanging up. A card/form holder and tall feet accompanied the special order tab mechanism. The feet were replaced with four from a rusted up No. 6/18-inch. The front cover, plated carriage sides, paper fingers, and paper guide came from a No. 5. The carriage sides were black and poorly repainted. The rollers from a frame busted No. 6 dropped right in.
Foot number is at 2175041 and another one for the No3 that is so far off from the SN.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to anyone area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood 3 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood 3 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
