1920 Corona 3 Serial # 288623 1920 Corona 3 typewriter, Serial # 288623 Fumitaka Hayashi's 1920 Corona 3 typewriter. 2026-09-15 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Fumitaka Hayashi: 1920 Corona 3 Serial # 288623 A Corona 3.

My first Corona 3 was inoperable due to the loose dog (?) being chipped. Rather than trying to fix it, I figured it's cheaper to acquire another one. This one included the case, and the case came with a brush and a little oil vial.

It was initially gummed up. I imagine when your typewriter comes with a vial of oil, you tend to over-oil it. Once I got it cleaned up, and replaced the ribbon, it's in fairly good condition. Two typebars were totally stuck, but came free pretty easily with a little mineral spirits.

It's working, even the ribbon advance. The only thing wrong is that the capital letters are a bit higher than they should be. I'm not quite sure where the adjustment is. Once I figure that out, I'll take a stab at fixing this.

The front panel of the bottom of the case flaps down. The hinge has ripped, and has been replaced with black vinyl tape. I may try to source a more appropriate looking cloth tape to replace it.

Trying very hard to be more judicious in my acquisitions...

I like interesting typefaces. I like tinkering with my acquisitions to make them work.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Corona 3 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Corona Serial Number page and the Corona 3 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
