190X Rem-Sho 5 Serial # 7585 190X Rem-Sho 5 typewriter, Serial # 7585 Marty Morren's 190X Rem-Sho 5 typewriter. 2026-09-02 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Marty Morren: 190X Rem-Sho 5 Serial # 7585 Bought this machine from Renier (DonaldDutchie) and restored it to its former glory.

My theory is that this machine is a very late production No.5. Obviously, due to it being black, uinlike the earlier copper plated machines. But also due to the fact that the carriage is nickel plated instead of the bronze / blackened look of other No.4 and No,5 examples. Later models like the Fay-Sholes No.6, and front strike Rem-Sho No.11 also have the nickel plated carriage.

This machine was refurbished and coated in a shellac layer. This layer had different wear marks than the original paint underneath, suggesting the rebuild early in its life.
