When I first saw this typewriter, I assumed there had been two missing keys which were replaced with black L keys, but those are actually bracket symbols with corresponding type slugs. See upper left and lower right keyboard corners.

I bought my first typewriter, an Imperial 50, in February 2026. I enjoyed the process of repairing it and cleaning it so much that I soon bought another. And another. Six months later I had 20 typewriters. I’ll need to quit my day job to keep up with these fun, interesting, challenging, satisfying and meditative projects. I’m especially interested in older machines from the experimental era of typewriter design.
