1899 Chicago Closed Frame Model Serial # 31385 1899 Chicago Closed Frame Model typewriter, Serial # 31385 Geir Kihle Hanssen's 1899 Chicago Closed Frame Model typewriter. 2022-05-06 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Geir Kihle Hanssen: 1899 Chicago Closed Frame Model Serial # 31385 Bought from a lady whose father used to buy antiquities on auctions in the past. Where this machine was before then is unknown, but it does have Norwegian characters. Machine has a _lot_ of rust problems and while certain parts do move, most do not want to. This thing will need to be taken apart and given a lengthy bath in rust converter. I will have to look into how to do this safely as I suspect the paint and especially the key tops will not play nice with a several days long rust converter bath.

I am a Norwegian fellow who enjoys tinkering and fixing up typewriters. One day I decided I wanted a typewriter to write letters on. I bought one that turned out not to work. I got annoyed and decided I should be able to figure out what was wrong and fix it. I did it, but the rush of successfully mending such an intricate machine was like a drug. I wanted more. I decided I would try to buy non-functioning, but pretty machines, fix them and sell them before repeating the process. What I didn't expect was that I would fall in love with the machines I fix so now I suddenly find myself a bit of a collector.
